Lead Electro-Optical AIT Production Engineer

Location: United Kingdom, Glasgow or Harwell | Full-Time, Permanent Employment

Our NewSpace client is seeking a Lead Electro-Optical AIT (Assembly, Integration & Test) Production Engineer to spearhead the meticulous build, alignment, and testing of our next-generation electro-optical systems for space missions.

As the Lead AIT Production Engineer, you will:

  • Oversee and coordinate the precise assembly and integration of complex electro-optical payloads.
  • Lead testing operations, ensuring systems meet rigorous performance, reliability, and quality standards.
  • Interface with multidisciplinary teams (mechanical, electrical, optical, software) to streamline production workflows.
  • Own and evolve AIT processes, tooling, and documentation to drive quality and efficiency.
  • Support troubleshooting and root cause analysis for production anomalies.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and mission-critical requirements.

Experience needed:

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with high-speed FPGA electronics systems, including:
  • PCB design and routing best practices.
  • Signal integrity and power distribution for mixed-signal systems.
  • Deep understanding of electro-optical hardware, space environment considerations, and cleanroom protocols.
  • Proficiency with test instrumentation (oscilloscopes, spectrum analysers, etc.) and automation tools.
  • Strong knowledge of AIT flows and environmental testing (thermal vacuum, vibration, etc.).
  • A proactive mindset with exceptional organisational and leadership skills.

Nice to have:

  • Experience with space-qualified component selection and validation.
  • Familiarity with optical alignment techniques, laser systems, or focal plane arrays.
  • Exposure to ECAD tools (e.g., Altium, OrCAD), and scripting for test automation
  • Prior involvement in space missions or aerospace-grade manufacturing.
